About Jonathan Dorf

Playwright and screenwriter Jonathan Dorf has had his plays produced in all 50 states, as well as in Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America, Australia and New Zealand. He has been a finalist for the Actors Theatre of Louisville Heideman Award, the Hyperion One Act Award, the Weinberger Playwright Residency and the Interact and Charlotte Rep New Play festivals, and he has worked with such companies as the Walnut Street Theatre, Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, Ensemble Studio Theatre - LA, Moving Arts, the Secret Rose and the Pittsburgh New Works Festival. More than 25 of his plays are published by such companies as Playscripts, Original Works, Heuer and Brooklyn Publishers, with monologues published in collections published by Meriwether and Smith & Kraus.  More than 20 other plays are published by YouthPLAYS  (www.youthplays.com), the publisher of plays for young actors and audiences he co-founded and runs.

He is the Chair Emeritus of the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights and was the longtime resident playwriting expert for Final Draft (for whom he created the playwriting "Ask the Expert") and The Writers Store (creator of the popular site Playwriting101.com and former playwriting instructor at Screenwriters University), as well as the former managing director of the Philadelphia Dramatists Center.  He has served as Visiting Associate Professor of Theatre in the MFA playwriting program at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, and as United States Cultural Envoy to Barbados.

Author of Young Playwrights 101, a book for young playwrights and those who teach them, he works extensively with young writers and has been a guest artist at schools and festivals across the United States, and as far away as Singapore.  He is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America, and sits on the Guild's Education Committee. He holds
a BA in Dramatic Writing and Literature from Harvard University and an MFA in Playwriting from UCLA.  He is available to playwrights and screenwriters as a script consultant at The Write Consultant.
